Pre-session Arrangements • Always ask to see examples of the photographers work (i.e.: his/her website).
• Find out all that you can about the photographer/studio in advance (ask for references from other photographers you trust and or models
he/she has worked with).
• If the photographer is hesitant to give out simple things like his/her full name, address, references, etc.. This is a huge red flag, RUN!!
• If this is the models first time with the photographer, the model should ask if he/she may bring a companion. If the photographer asks
that the companion be in another room during the shoot, this should be acceptable to the model. Most reputable photographers will not
object to this as long as the companion does not interfere with the shoot, slow down the process, or make the model feel awkward.
• Models should be fully informed prior to any session as to the level, nature and usage of the images. In return the model should be
expected to complete a standard release form.
• If "Prints for Time" modeling is involved the model should be informed as to how many prints he / she can expect and a guaranteed
date when he / she will receive proofs / final prints. Regardless of any wording on the model release, the model should have free use of
any supplied images for the purpose of self-promotion which includes publication in any medium. Commercial use of these images by
the model are normally not allowed unless agreed beforehand as part of the Prints for Time arrangement.
• If an overnight stay is required safe and secure accommodation should be secured and whether or not re-imbursement of expenses will
occur. Proof of any such arrangements should be confirmed prior to the model traveling.
• Where cash payment for modeling is involved the model should be paid in full on the day of modeling.
• Any agreed deposit / travel monies should be paid prior to modeling traveling.
• A minimum session length should be agreed by both parties beforehand.
• At least one of the following contact methods for security should be available. (a) A home / office land based telephone number.
(b) A home / office postal address. The address of the studio if applicable, should be known in advance. Models should tell someone
close to them this address and the time they will be arriving and departing from the shoot. Email addresses and mobile phones are
not acceptable for this purpose.
Session Protocols
• In a studio environment a separate and private area or room should be provided for model changing. • In a location environment the model should not be asked to change clothing in an area which will cause her / him distress or discomfort. • No session should last longer than four hours without a hour break for food and refreshment. A short break should be provided about every two hours. • The model should not be asked to model for any style or level not agreed beforehand. • The clock for payment should begin when the model arrives (READY for make up, modeling, picture discussion). • At all times the photographer should be professional avoiding crude language and derogatory slang. The photographer should never touch the skin of the model. Other
• If a model arrives too late for the minimum session length to be completed the photographer should reserve the right to make a fair adjustment to fees including a proportional deduction from travel expenses. • The model should at all times be free from sexual harassment in any form by the photographer, or any third party involved in the photography.
